Payment pricing changes with the way your business takes a card.

A crowded cafe, a repair bay and an online checkout do not create the same transactions. Average ticket, payment channel and transaction count determine which part of a processor's markup matters most.

One tap on the screen and the money is already on its way to your account.

Start with the transaction, not the industry label

Two businesses with the same monthly card volume can have very different processing costs. The useful questions are how many payments create that volume, how large each payment is, and whether the card is physically present.

Small tickets make fixed charges louder

A cafe may create hundreds of transactions to reach the same volume that a law firm collects in a handful of retainers. The per-transaction line deserves more attention when the ticket is small.

Large tickets expose percentage-heavy pricing

On repair invoices and professional retainers, a few cents per transaction barely moves the statement. Markup measured against volume does.

Payment channel changes the underlying cost

A chip or contactless payment is not priced by the networks like a keyed, stored-card or online transaction. Interchange-plus pricing preserves that distinction instead of blending every channel together.

Restaurants and cafes

Rush-hour transaction counts, small tickets, tabs and tip adjustments make the fixed charge on each payment unusually important.

Retail

In-person sales, refunds and seasonal volume swings call for a statement that separates network cost from provider markup.

Auto repair, tire and body shops

Large invoices, parts deposits and delayed captures make percentage markup more consequential than a few cents at the terminal.

E-commerce

Online payments carry real card-not-present cost, gateway requirements and chargeback exposure that should be stated rather than blended away.

A thin markup does not erase interchange

Interchange and card-brand assessments still apply. They are set by the networks and vary with the card, acceptance method and transaction details. They pass through the account regardless of the referral partner.

The published markup is a target, never a promise or guarantee. Pcnaid is an independent referral partner to North American Bancard / CardConnect CoPilot. The processor's underwriting department approves or declines the account and determines final pricing.

The honest answer may be a simpler account

Very low or occasional volume can make a turnkey flat-rate provider the practical choice. There is less setup, and a merchant who accepts only a few payments may reasonably value convenience above a thinner markup.

The industry pages identify that case plainly. Their worked examples use the shared pricing calculator so the arithmetic changes whenever the underlying pricing model changes.

Use your actual payment pattern.

Enter monthly volume, average ticket and payment channel. The result compares markup and fees without pretending the pass-through network costs disappear.

Applying carries no obligation. Underwriting, approval and final rates are determined by the processor.
