On a repair order, the percentage line does the damage.

A transmission, tire set or collision invoice concentrates a month's volume into relatively few payments. With tickets this large, markup against volume matters far more than shaving a few cents from each transaction.

Target markup, never a promise or guarantee · Approval and final pricing belong to the processor's underwriting department

Wheels off, invoice settled at the bay — get paid before the car leaves the lift.

Follow the repair order from estimate to settlement

Authorization

The initial estimate establishes that the card can support the expected charge. It should not be confused with completed payment or a promise that funding cannot be reviewed.

before work

Parts deposit

A deposit can protect the shop before non-returnable parts are ordered. If it is charged separately from the final balance, it is a separate transaction and should be modeled that way.

before ordering

Final capture

Labor, supplements and approved changes need to be reflected in the amount that settles. Staff should understand partial captures and delayed invoicing before a large job reaches the counter.

before release

A month of large repair invoices

$60,000.00 in card volume at an average ticket of $1,200.00 produces only 50 transactions. The quote function prices that exact workload.

$61.50

This is a modeled comparison, not a quoted saving. The account's markup is a target, never a promise or guarantee; the processor's underwriting department decides final pricing.

This compares processor markup and monthly fees only. Interchange and card-brand assessments are set by the card networks, apply equally to all providers, and are not included.

The card mix is part of the repair

A shop may accept regulated debit for routine maintenance, a rewards card for tires and a commercial fleet card for business vehicles. Those cards do not carry identical interchange.

Consumer debit

Its underlying network economics may be materially different from a premium credit card. A blended provider rate can prevent the shop from seeing that distinction.

Commercial and fleet cards

These can carry higher network costs and may require additional transaction data to qualify correctly. Ask the processor which terminal and fields support the shop’s card mix.

Keyed balances

A payment taken by phone is not equivalent to a chip transaction at pickup. Model keyed and card-present work separately when both are material.

When flat rate is actually better

A mobile mechanic who accepts a card only occasionally may value immediate phone-based setup more than statement-level pricing. For sporadic work, the administrative simplicity can outweigh the markup on a small number of charges.

A shop with stable bays, repeat volume and regular high-ticket invoices should compare the percentage component carefully. That is where a blended rate compounds.

Questions before the vehicle leaves

Can an unusually large invoice trigger a funding review?

Yes. A ticket far outside the account’s expected pattern can trigger the processor’s risk controls. Pcnaid does not underwrite or fund transactions and cannot promise that funds will never be held.

Is the target markup guaranteed for every shop?

No. It is never a promise or guarantee. The processor’s underwriting department reviews the application and determines approval and final pricing.

Who helps when a batch will not settle?

The support front line is an AI voice agent that records and triages the problem. Issues involving settlement, funding, holds or balances are routed to the processor.

Use the ticket that leaves the bay.

Enter settled card volume and the average charged invoice, separating card-present work from keyed payments when both are meaningful.

Applying carries no obligation. Underwriting, approval and final rates are determined by the processor.
