Online payments cost more underneath. The markup still deserves daylight.

Card-not-present interchange is genuinely higher because the card and customer are not at the terminal. That is a reason to manage fraud and qualification carefully, not a reason to stop separating network cost from provider markup.

Target pricing, never a promise or guarantee · E-commerce risk and final rates are decided by underwriting

Packed, labelled, out the door — and the payout already scheduled for tomorrow.

The checkout has three jobs before pricing begins

Prove the transaction belongs

Address verification, security-code checks, device signals and clear order records help reduce fraud. Their value is operational as well as financial.

Send complete payment data

The gateway must transmit the fields the processor and networks need. Missing or inconsistent data can affect qualification and complicate disputes.

Leave evidence for fulfillment

Delivery confirmation, cancellation terms and customer communication matter when a chargeback arrives. A thin markup cannot compensate for weak order records.

An online month priced in card-not-present mode

The model uses $50,000.00 in monthly sales and a $100.00 average order. That produces 500 transactions.

$50.00 Target monthly markup and fees for this account
$130.00 Dharma: $0/mo + 15 bps + 11¢/txn
$80.00 Modeled monthly difference
$960.00 Annualized difference if activity repeats

Both sides are calculated with card-not-present pricing and the same transaction count. The target markup is never a promise or guarantee, and the processor's underwriting department sets the final rate after reviewing the business.

This compares processor markup and monthly fees only. Interchange and card-brand assessments are set by the card networks, apply equally to all providers, and are not included.

Risk is not a line item that can be wished away

Chargebacks change the account

Friendly fraud, stolen credentials, delivery disputes and subscription cancellations are part of online commerce. A rising dispute pattern can lead the processor or acquiring bank to request documents, establish a reserve or hold funds.

The referral partner cannot release money

Pcnaid introduces applicants to North American Bancard / CardConnect CoPilot. The processor underwrites the account, manages risk and controls funding. Any request involving a reserve, hold or account balance must be decided there.

When flat rate is actually better

A new store using a hosted website builder may be better served by its built-in flat-rate checkout. One-click setup, bundled software and minimal operational overhead can justify the additional margin while sales are small or unproven.

The decision should be revisited when order volume stabilizes, the store needs a separate gateway or chargeback management becomes a regular operating task.

Questions from the other side of checkout

Can a chargeback spike lead to held funds?

Yes. The processor and acquiring bank may act when dispute activity changes the account’s risk. Pcnaid cannot promise that an account will never be frozen or that funds will never be held.

Is the target markup guaranteed for every online store?

No. It is never a promise or guarantee. The processor’s underwriting department evaluates the product, fulfillment model, history and risk before setting final pricing.

How is gateway support handled?

The support front line is an AI voice agent that records and triages the request. Integration questions are routed to the appropriate technical team, while funding and account decisions remain with the processor.

Model online payments as online payments.

Choose card-not-present mode and use settled sales rather than storefront traffic. The calculator will keep network costs outside the markup comparison.

Applying carries no obligation. Underwriting, approval and final rates are determined by the processor.
